Because my screen has 1280 pixel it's important not to use more. For widescreen 16:9 I have to use 1280 x 720 pixel. What do you mean because your screen has 1280 pixels it's important not to use more? You can work on a 1920x1080 game or a game of any resolution regardless of your monitor size.
It makes no sense to have a game 2000 px width if the screen is only 1280 width...You are designing a game using a 1280 px screen?! Hmmm, nowadays even 5" smartphones feature 1920x1080, i think you should just go out and grab a new screen asap!!
That website probably hasn't been touched for years? All 3 Simon games by Adventuresoft are about €5 each when not on sale.Yeap, i think u r right, the website looks abandoned.

The scene becomes scrollable if the background is larger than the default resolution - in both game & editor. That's true. I mean a screen without scrolling. The scene could be 3000 px width (I tried it out), but the window is still 1280 (in my case only 800) px.
Thats why the editor has also scrollbars and zoom functions But i agree: the higher the game resolution, the higher your workstation computer resolution should be (but not neccessarily) to have less trouble when in the editor. The scene becomes scrollable if the background is larger than the default resolution - in both game & editor. That's true. I use scrolling one time but it is very uncomfortable, I avoid it if I can.
